A lot of people have asked me if Wayne and I are financially okay after reading this comic on GeekMom. They’re very concerned friends and family members and I love them all so much (I love YOU all so much). The short answer is, yes. We’ll be okay. We’re paying everything off little by little just like everyone else does. It won’t be as fast as I want but I’ll deal with that.
I created this comic because I want the rest of the families, all other people struggling because of one unexpected large expense or another, that they are not the only ones going through something like this. They aren’t the only ones struggling with collections calls or prioritizing who to make payments to next. They aren’t the only ones having nightmares about the Repo Men coming to take their kids away and calling them selfish.
When wages don’t keep up with inflation, when healthcare costs skyrocket and even having decent insurance isn’t enough, when the unexpected happens and you blow through your savings — money that you worked so long and hard for just in case is gone in a flash, well, then you’re just like the majority of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, starting that side hustle, and doing whatever you have to do to survive until either the next payday comes or the next unexpected big expense happens.
I make these comics because I want to be honest, even when the subjects aren’t all that positive and it’s hard to talk about. I think sometimes those are the comics some of us need the most. Some of us just need to know that we aren’t alone.
